An inquiry into Ofsted has deemed it "not fit for purpose" and requires "transformational change".
The Beyond Ofsted inquiry also said it found the education inspectorate for England to have a "detrimental impact on schools which some perceive as toxic". The inquiry, chaired by former schools minister Lord Jim Knight and Sponsored by the National Education Union (NEU), recommended that the school inspection system undergo a complete overhaul.
Recommendations from the inquiry included self-evaluation from schools alongside work with an external school improvement partner that would aid the school in the long-term. In this case, they would validate and support the school to help them deliver an action plan while parents are provided with "readable and useful information" instead of a single-word verdict.

Lord Knight said: “The evidence is clear. Ofsted has lost the trust of the teaching profession, and increasingly of parents. Our recommendations are designed to restore trust and address the intensification of leader and teacher workload, while reforming a system which is ineffective in its role of school improvement”
The inquiry was launched in April following calls for the inspectorate to change its school rating system that uses one-word judgments after the death of headteacher Ruth Perry in January. Ms Perry's family said she took her own life after an Ofsted report downgraded Caversham Primary School in Reading from its highest to lowest rating over safeguarding concerns.

There are increasing concerns for a Scots teenager who did not come home on Friday night.
Humza Yousaf will be advised by senior SNP allies to reject any appeal of the Government’s humiliating court defeat on his gender reform law. Top party figures who supported the new law believe the game is up and will urge the First Minister to blow no more public cash on the case. The SNP Government suffered a humbling defeat in the Court of Session after a judge ruled Westminster had acted lawfully by blocking Holyrood’s Gender Recognition Reform (GRR) Act. SNP ministers have already racked up a legal bill of around £230,000 fighting the case and costs could spiral if they appeal.
