The bravery medals of the Scottish chauffeur who was shot during the Princess Anne kidnap attempt have been sold 49 years later for almost £50,000.
Alexander Callender was given the Queen’s Gallantry Medal for his “outstanding courage” in the Mall.
Callender, from Edinburgh, was driving the 23-year-old Anne in a Royal Daimler when gunman Ian Ball swerved his Ford Escort to them.
Ball shot bodyguard James Beaton in the shoulder and put his gun to Callender’s head.
Callender grabbed his arm and was shot in the chest.
Ball, who was after a £3m ransom, was jailed for life.
Callender died 20 years ago and his family have now sold that medal and others.
