Humza Yousaf has said it's up to SNP members to decide whether Lisa Cameron stands again at the next general election.
The MP for East Kilbride hit out last weekend after it was revealed she faced a selection contest after her local party branch backed a rival candidate.
Cameron suggested she could force a by-election in the South Lanarkshire constituency if she does not ultimately win the nomination.
She faces a challenge for the candidacy from party activist Grant Costello.
Cameron has claimed to have been shunned by her colleagues at Westminster after speaking out against sex pest SNP MP Patrick Grady.
Yousaf was in Cambuslang today where he was campaigning ahead of a crunch by-election in Rutherglen next week.
Asked about Cameron, the First Minister said: "No, I haven't spoken to Lisa Cameron. We're in the middle of a selection contest, I would say to any of those who are interested, obviously to do so by the rules, and that they have a robust debate in the best tradition of our party.
"It's really up to local branches, to local members, to make a decision on who they want to represent them in the upcoming general election."
Speaking to the BBC over the weekend, Cameron admitted she had experienced "difficulties" within the party.
The MP said: "I've never said that I plan to force a by-election... I have just been honest and said I could not rule that out because one doesn't know what could happen."
She added: "I've had a terrible 12 months of ordeal where I've needed counselling from the welfare services in Westminster.
"I knew that I had difficulties in my relationship with the party.
"In fact, at the time when I spoke up in a meeting for the victim of sexual harassment in the Patrick Grady case, the victim himself had said to
