A Greater Manchester Police detective has been charged with four counts of rape.
Detective Constable Stephen Hardy has also been charged with multiple sexual offences and several child sex offences. The 45-year-old, who is based within the force's Stockport division, has been suspended from duty.
In full, Hardy has been charged with four counts of rape; two counts of possession of extreme pornography; two counts of making/taking an indecent image of a child; two counts of causing/inciting a girl aged over 13 to engage in sexual activity; one count of causing a girl aged over 13 to engage in sexual activity; one count of causing a child to watch an image of a sexual act; five counts of sexual assault and three counts of assault by penetration.

Greater Manchester Police said a report relating to Hardy was first received in June 2020. He will next appear in at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on August 10.
He has been suspended from the force. Misconduct proceedings will recommence after the criminal proceedings have ended.
