Mina Starsiak Hawk is opening up about her relationship with her mom, Karen E. Laine.
In a new episode on her podcast, the Good Bones renovator and designer revealed that she and her mom aren’t in a good place at the moment; and it goes the same with her brother, Tad, who is staple on the HGTV series.

In the episode, which was recorded ahead of her son’s birthday in early August, Mina revealed Karen nor Tad were actually invited to Jack‘s party.
“Will it affect my kids?” she questioned. “Will they even notice who’s here and who’s not here? There’s going to be a bunch of animals. That’s all they care about.”
It was then that she admitted her relationship with Karen was strained.
“My mom and I aren’t in a great place,” she said. “My brother Tad and I aren’t in a great place. My brother William and I are in a kind of like nonexistent place. It’s complicated without even being complicated. We don’t really engage much and the last engagement wasn’t super positive, and that was maybe a year ago.”
Mina added that they all just “coexist. We went on family vacation together and everyone is pleasant enough around each other. And is that the good thing, the right thing, or is that all just being wildly dysfunctional?”
She then explained her process of who to invite to Jack‘s party, saying those who were actively involved in Jack, and his 2-year-old sister, Charlie‘s lives, got an invite.
“Not only do my mom and my two brothers not fall into that category of being involved in their life on a regular basis, we’re also not on good terms,” she admitted.
