Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has backed Jadon Sancho's decision to address Erik ten Hag's comments after Manchester United's defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
Following the 3-1 loss to the Gunners, a frustrated Ten Hag was asked why Sancho was absent from the squad which travelled to North London. He responded stating the Englishman's 'training performances' were behind his absence.
Taking exception to the comments from his boss, Sancho posted on his social media accounts: "Please don't believe everything you read! I have conducted myself in training very well this week.
"I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't get into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair!" Since the post, MEN Sport understands Ten Hag has stood by his press conference comments and feels there is no need to add to them.

Supporters online have been split by the actions of both Sancho and Ten Hag but there is a consensus the winger did not choose the best forum to air his grievances against the boss. However on X, responding to reports of United backing Ten Hag, Lineker took a different view.
He wrote: "So the manager can go public, but the player can’t. Interesting."
The former Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton forward then added in the comments section: "[Ten Hag saying:] 'I make the decisions' would’ve sufficed and been wiser." United now head into the international break with two wins and two defeats from their first four matches but the manager has a lot to deal with in Carrington before the Premier League returns.
