Family blast police response after calling to report son, 5, had been 'slashed'

A family has slammed police after calling to report that their little boy had been slashed - only to be told that no officers would be sent out.
Jaxon Summers, five, had been out playing in a park in Bradwell when he ran home covered in blood and told his mum Abby that he had been struck in the face.
The schoolboy's parent called 999 as she rushed him to hospital, telling police that she believed he had been attacked with broken glass. The call handler then reportedly said that a unit would be dispatched immediately, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.
However, the family claims that they received a call three hours later to say that no officer would be sent out. Abby was left furious after being informed that she would instead have to visit the police station two days later to report the alleged assault.
Police say they’ve since established that the child was not hit with a glass or bottle, but the family are furious that the police failed to show up despite the incident being reported as such.
The force says it “prioritises every call and subsequent response and investigation based on the nature of the threat, the harm caused, the risk of further crimes being committed and opportunities to identify the suspect", adding: "During times of high-demand, there may be occasions where our response is delayed.”
Grandma Kath Johnson, 58, described the moment Jaxon returned to his home, a stone’s throw from the park.
She said: “Jaxon went with his half-brother to the park. We all take it in turns to go and check they’re OK and the park is right on the doorstep. Me, my husband, and Abby were all taking it in turns. Between us we were going to the gate watching them.
