A smart calculator has revealed the difference in cost between running various household appliances.
Price comparison site uSwitch has come up with this handy tool that calculates the price of running individual household appliances in different areas of your home.
It comes as households are set to pay more for their gas and electricity bills in January after the energy watchdog announced its latest price cap. Bills for a typical energy user paying by direct debit will rise from £1,834 a year to £1,928, an increase of £94, according to Ofgem.
The energy calculator, which reveals prices under the current rice cap, reveals the cost broken down into the average amount of minutes used, the cost per hour, week and even over a year.
All you have to do is select an appliance, and choose how long you use it on average during the week. You can also choose an option that gives you the nationwide average, and also if you leave the item on all week long.
Using this calculator, we have compared various household appliances across the home to find out which one is cheapest to run on average over the year.
To conduct this research, we used the average minutes option on the calculator to determine an overall sense of how much it would cost to run each appliance.
According to the results, it would cost you £39.52 a year on average to run a dishwasher for 210 minutes a week, every single week.
In comparison, it costs £35.36 a year to run a washing machine for an average of 210 minutes a week for all 52 weeks of the year.
So, the results are in - it is cheaper to run your washing machine over the 12 months, with a difference of £4.16 between the two.
On average, both the fridge and the freezer are used for 10,080 minutes a week, which is all day
