She was on long-running soap Emmerdale for 19 years, and now, actress Charley Webb has revealed she has no regrets about leaving. Charley played Debbie Dingle but made her exit from the show in 2021. She said last year in an Instagram Q&A: "I left to have Ace 2 years ago.
I went back at the end of last year for 10 weeks to complete a storyline. So, I guess officially it’s been a year. I never felt the need to announce it which is why we didn’t.” It had been reported that Charley had decided to exit the soap for good following her husband Matthew’s alleged involvement in a race probe on set, which saw him suspended for a few weeks.
He also went on to leave the soap. Charley did make a brief return to Emmerdale as Debbie was unmasked as Al Chapman's mystery woman. But she left after exposing his cheating and insisted she would return when she had a manager for her business in Scotland.
But it never happened and Debbie has been in Scotland since, not coming back to the village. Now, speaking two years after she left the soap, Charley told whattowatch.com that she feels she left at the right time and it was the correct decision. She said: “I’m ambitious to push myself and it’s just about choosing the right projects from now on.
“It’s hard to say no to work, but I trust my agent and I trust the process. Hopefully, I’ve made some good choices so far.” Some of her newer projects include crime drama Better, which she made a cameo appearance in. She's also currently starring in the series The Long Shadow playing WPC Anna Lawson, a police officer involved in the hunt for Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.
