Emmerdale lost out on the BAFTA award to Coronation Street during the glittering ceremony on Sunday 8 May.The ITV soap lost out to its rival, which airs on the same channel, as Corrie was given the Soap and Continuing Drama gong in a ceremony hosted at Southbank's Royal Festival Hall in London. But, the presentation of the actual award was cut from the final edit of the show and was instead included in a roundup at the end of the programme. However, the cast of the soap celebrated their win in a video posted on Coronation Street's Twitter page.

Corrie beat fellow nominees Casualty, Coronation Street, Emmerdale to win the award.
Meanwhile, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Holby City were not nominated for the accolade. Despite the soap's win loyal soap fans were left furious that Emmerdale lost out. One user tweeted: "How the hell did @emmerdale miss out on the BAFTA awards seriously Emmedale was absolutely brilliant specially @KevMathurin @FionaWade_ was absolutely brilliant".
