Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes the effort Wout Weghorst has put in at Old Trafford is enough to prove he should be signed permanently but admits his lack of goals is an issue.
MEN Sport understands Erik ten Hag will not be pursuing a permanent deal for Weghorst once his loan stint from Burnley ends at the end of the season. The Reds signed the Dutch striker in January to replace Cristiano Ronaldo who left in November.
Since his switch to the Theatre of Dreams, Weghorst has struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. The 30-year-old has scored just twice for United and those came in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

With Ten Hag looking to go in another direction in the summer, Yorke told the Manchester Evening News where it went wrong for Weghorst at United. "It's simple, Wout Weghorst has not scored enough goals," he said.
"In the amount of games he's played, he's backed up why he should stay. It's a harsh world, if you can't score goals as a striker, then you don't get a second chance.
"If Weghorst is honest with himself, he'll admit he has not scored enough, despite working hard and being persistent. Ultimately, he's going to be judged on how many goals he's scored and it's not many, but you can't blame a lack of trying, he's just not a good enough goal scoring threat."
United's main target in the summer will be Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. However, the Reds are wary of Daniel Levy refusing to sell the England captain and have thus drawn up a list of alternatives which includes Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani.
