A driver was slapped with a £400 fine after video camera footage recorded them driving narrowly close to a group of cyclists in Sheffield and 'swerving' over the central white road markings. The shocking incident was captured in August last year, and showed the silver car pass the bikers closely at speed.
Police confirmed the driver landed a £417 fine after driving 'too closely' to the cyclists at 'excessive speed' and was also slapped with five penalty points. They added that the driver had chosen to accelerate and endanger the bikers.
Sharing the footage on social media, Sheffield North West police warned: “If anyone thinks this is an acceptable manner of driving, let this be your warning.” The Peugeot driver appearing to slightly cross the road markings as the cyclists overtake a parked car.

"The driver of this vehicle decided to pass a group of cyclists at excessive speed and far too closely. Fined £417 in total, licence endorsed with five points."
However, across social media and road users, the clip seemed to divide opinion, with some arguing the driver had done nothing wrong. Others argued the car did not have enough room with the cyclists and the park car taking up space on the carriageway.
Sheffield Police added: "The driver didn’t just endanger one cyclist, he was also too close to those following. He would have seen a group of bikes in a line, and chose to accelerate to a speed increasing the danger to all of them and swerve over the white lines towards them.
"If he had simply driven to the conditions at a less dangerous speed and stayed on his own side of the road he wouldn’t have been prosecuted. If people do choose to endanger
