An M62 driver claimed he had mistook a police car for an ambulance after failing to stop for officers.
It came after the driver narrowly avoided crashing into stationary cars in an emergency refuge area that he believed was an exit slip road off the motorway. The Vauxhall Astra motorist was subsequently issued with a traffic offence report and reported for due care.
The incident was recounted on the official Greater Manchester Police Traffic Twitter account @gmptraffic in a 12.02am post during the early hours of this morning, which was accompanied by an image from the police car's dashcam footage. The post read: "The driver of the Vauxhall Astra thought a emergency refuge area was the slip road of J11 M62 and nearly collided with stationary cars then failed to stop.
"Eventually stopping he thought the police car was an ambulance. Reported for due care and TOR issued @NWmwaypolice."
