Manchester United have been told they would be “lucky” to have Antonio Conte as their manager.
The Italian’s Tottenham side managed to derail Liverpool’s title hopes with a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday, just hours after United’s 4-0 humiliation at Brighton. Conte was briefly of interest to United following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November.
He ultimately joined Spurs, after United decided against his appointment, and now has them vying for a Champions League spot. United, meanwhile, are in danger of dropping out of the Europa League places following their latest defeat.

Conte elected to play a counter-attacking game against Liverpool, often sitting 10-men behind the ball for long periods. Over the weekend, former defender Gary Neville tweeted that he believes the Tottenham manager’s style wouldn't be “the right fit for United”.
This was slammed by fellow pundit Chris Sutton in his Daily Mail column, who told Neville to “behave” and suggested United would be fortunate to have the Premier League winner in their dugout. He wrote: “Antonio Conte was right for Manchester United when they were looking for a replacement for David Moyes in 2014. For Louis van Gaal in 2016.
“For Jose Mourinho in 2018. For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021. He would be right for them now if they were still searching for a new head coach.
“Conte is a winner — he won the Premier League with Chelsea and Serie A with Juventus and Inter Milan.” He added: “Gary Neville sparked a social media debate on Sunday by tweeting that Conte's style is 'why he wasn't the right fit for United'. Behave. United would be lucky to have Conte in charge.“
