People were divided over a hefty £417 fine issued by police to a driver for driving too close to cyclists, and we want to know if you think that the driver got what he deserved or if you think he was treated harshly.
Police in Sheffield cited the driver being too close to the cyclist and driving too quickly as reasons for the fine, and said: "If anyone thinks this is an acceptable manner of driving, let this be your warning." They added that the driver had chosen to accelerate and endanger the bikers.
According to a report from the government in September 2021, on average two cyclists died per week and 83 were seriously injured in reported road casualties between 2015 and 2020.

Commenting on the incident in Sheffield, one reader said: " Cyclists should have stopped behind the parked car and gave way. It's basic, something we did as kids! Drivers are easy prey for the cops, easy money."
Another also commented: "T he obstruction is on the left, the cyclist should have waited. There isn't much room for the oncoming car to pull over, there maybe a ditch for all we know."
However, one reader responded saying: "Why should they have stopped? Their lane was clear. They weren't encroaching into another lane."
Others criticised the driver, with one person saying: "The car is being driven way too fast, the driver can barely stay in their lane with speed they are going. Reckless whether the cyclists were there or not."
Another reader added: "D river decides to go too fast for conditions and 'punish' a group of cyclists by swerving across the line onto the other side of road to 'close pass' them.
"I'm sure he had a good laugh about it until he got the notice of prosecution in the post.
