Dwayne Myers is officially back on BBC's Death in Paradise but all might not be as it seems, according to actor Danny John-Jules. Danny had been playing the character Dwayne since series one started, back in 2011. He continued as a regular for seven series until 2018 and then only returned for the Christmas special in 2021.
However he's now back for series 13, although Danny has teased that there might be more to Dwayne's return. Speaking in an interview about what Dwayne's been up to while away, the 63-year-old said: "Dwayne has been looking after his dad. We don’t really know why Dwayne has come back, but you can see that something is bugging him..." However Danny said picking the role back up was like putting on an old pair of your "favourite trainers." He added: "As soon as I put them back on, I’m transported to his own little world that exists within Death in Paradise.
"He’s a Marmite character - you can’t live with him, but you can’t live without him. I think that was the secret to his relationships with the detectives. "Originally, he was very anti-detective, questioning “who do they think they are?” coming to the island with their Englishness.
"Then he would warm up to the eccentric detective and get on with them swimmingly.
Then came along another one, slightly different from the previous, but still bonkers!" Now he's back, audiences will be able to see how Dwayne goes from being a lover with Darlene (played by Ginny Holder) to a work colleague.
