David de Gea has told Manchester United he wants to stay at the club for the rest of his career ahead of talks over a new contract.
The Spaniard is about to embark on his 12th season at the club and he could become United's record appearance holder for a goalkeeper during the forthcoming campaign.
De Gea's existing deal, agreed on the last pre-season tour of Australia three years ago, expires at the end of this season and the club have an option to extend it by a further 12 months.

The 31-year-old bounced back to form last season, winning a fifth Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, and he's started well in pre-season under Erik ten Hag, highlighting another side of his game with the new manager keen for United to play out from the back.
De Gea is yet to hold any discussions over a new contract, but is ready to commit for the long-term once again.
"I didn't talk with anyone yet but of course, I would be really happy to be here for as long as they want because I want to be here for more years," he said.
Asked if he could finish his career at the club, De Gea added: "Yeah, if it's possible, of course. If they let me stay here I will stay here, for sure. I'm really comfortable, really happy and hopefully, before I leave we can win something."
De Gea came close to leaving United for Real Madrid in the summer of 2015, only for the move to collapse on deadline day due to the late submission of paperwork caused by a faulty fax machine.
Since then, Real have gone on to win four Champions League titles, while United have struggled to mount a Premier League challenge and De Gea has had to settle for an FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.
