Harry Maguire has been told he might benefit more from playing in La Liga than the Premier League amid reports of Barcelona's interest in him.
There had been rumours that the Spanish giants wished to include the Manchester United captain in a swap deal for Frenkie de Jong. However, United were said to have immediately rebuffed this suggestion with Erik ten Hag later announcing the England defender would stay on as skipper.
The 29-year-old had a trying season last term, bearing the brunt of a lot of criticism as United shipped their highest single-season goals tally in Premier League history. Some called for Maguire to be stripped of the captaincy after feeling he had not shown enough leadership during a torrid campaign for the club.

And now, speaking to The Games Cabin, former England defender Glen Johnson has said a move to La Liga may be better for him than staying at United. He argued that the "slower" pace of Spanish football may complement his playing style.
“I think Harry Maguire could be a success in La Liga," he said. "He’s not hit the levels that people were expecting at Manchester United but La Liga is a slower league and he’d get a bit more time on the ball so I think that would suit him, definitely.”
