Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he will play for Manchester United in Sunday’s friendly with Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.
The 37-year-old met with Erik ten Hag this week to reiterate his desire to leave the club, having missed this summer’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to family reasons. It means Ronaldo will play for United for the first time since the 4-0 away defeat to Brighton on May 7.
The superstar has not been included in the 21-man squad that will take on Atletico Madrid in Saturday’s friendly. Ronaldo had previously been linked with a shock move to Atleti before the club’s president dismissed the idea, amid supporters unfurling a 'CR7 not welcome' banner during a friendly.

Ronaldo was very active on social media on Friday, responding to comments about the protest from Atletico fans and his meeting with Erik ten Hag. The striker also used social media to reveal he would be making a return to action on Sunday.
Responding to an Instagram post about his omission from the United squad in Norway, he responded: “Sunday the king plays.” Ronaldo scored 24 goals in his homecoming campaign last season, and Ten Hag has underlined that he remains part of his plans despite his exit wish.
