Crazy footage shows drivers battling flooded motorway as roads submerged in water

This is the moment brave drivers attempted to battle a flooded motorway after torrential rain left the road submerged in water.
The M57 in Merseyside has since been closed in both directions, as heavy rain across the region left the motorway impassable.
A yellow weather warning for rain was in place this morning across parts of the North West, touching on the border of Greater Manchester, but largely covering Lancashire and Merseyside.

One video, sent to the ECHO, taken from a taxi at 5.50am this morning (August 26) shows the vehicle ploughing through a huge body of water formed on the M57 at Switch Island.
The emergency services can be seen monitoring the situation and giving instructions with the water appearing to have risen high up close to the door of the taxi. A stationary lorry can also be seen in the video.
Traffic monitoring site INRIX confirmed there were two lanes still closed and traffic still queueing as a result of the flooding on the M57 Northbound in some areas. Other instances of roads being flooded were reported across Merseyside including the East Lancs in the direction of Aintree University Hospital.
Earlier this morning, Merseyside Police warned drivers to stay safe when travelling around the area. A post on their Merseyside Police Contact Centre Twitter page said: "Please be careful if travelling in the area, as we have received several reports of widespread flooding. Should you see anything of a concern then please report online to your local council."
