The Department for Education (DfE) had been under pressure to release a full list of all the schools affected after the crisis hit headlines last week. Last Thursday dozens of schools have been told to fully or partially close because they are fitted with reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete, RAAC, a concrete that could suddenly collapse.
The DfE said it had contacted 104 schools after 52 of the 156 educational settings containing the concrete took protective steps so far this year. RAAC is a lightweight building material used from the 1950s up to the mid-1990s, but is now assessed to be at risk of collapse.
The list of 147 schools has been released after the government faced growing pressure to publish the details of each school affected. Eight schools across Greater Manchester have the dangerous crumbling concrete.
The start of term has had to be delayed for 19 of the schools on the list. A further four have moved to fully remote learning, while another 20 are going to do a mix of face-to-face and remote learning.
That leaves 104 schools where all students are still going to get face-to-face learning.
The Greater Manchester schools included in the DfE's list are:
Royal College Manchester (Seashell Trust)
St Bernard's RC Primary School, Bolton, is not on the DfE list. But bosses there have confirmed its site has been impacted. The school, in the Ladybridge area of Bolton, faces further delays, it was confirmed on Wednesday (September 6).
