Coronation Street legend Chris Gascoyne, who plays the iconic Peter Barlow in the soap, is expected to earn big bucks in his new panto role away from the show. Reports suggest the actor is likely to follow on from fellow soap stars and earn 'six figures' from his upcoming panto job this Christmas.
The TV star, 55, has been on the cobbles for 23 years, but is now set to say goodbye to the street, as he becomes Captain Hook in Peter Pan later this year. His latest role was announced by the Alban Arena in Saint Albans in July and it's been speculated that the star could 'earn £130,000' for starring in the pantomime.
According to The Sun, a run as short as three weeks in a panto's leading role can earn famous faces up to six-figure salaries. In 2017, Shane Richie reportedly earned £120K to play Robin Hood while EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt reportedly earns £130K per panto production he stars in.
It was also claimed that Corrie's Ryan Thomas likely received a six-figure pay cheque for a previous starring role as Captain Hook. Taking to Instagram to announce Chris' panto debut, the Alban Arena said in July: "The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season! "Chris Gascoyne is famous for his role as Peter Barlow in Britain’s top soap, Coronation Street (ITV) in which he has led numerous high-profile storylines to great acclaim." They added: "This promises to be our most spectacular pantomime yet with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and a star-studded cast, this is a must-see show for the whole family.
