Coronation Street legend Thelma Barlow, who played the iconic Mavis Wilton, has dashed fans' hopes of a return to the cobbles. The 95 year old actress was a fan favourite for over two decades, known for her on-screen partnership with Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) in the Kabin and her marriage to Derek Wilton. However, she left the soap in 1997 to run a bed and breakfast in Cumbria.
On Monday (July 1), Thelma made an appearance on Good Morning Britain to discuss her new film, Sleepless in Settle, which lured her out of retirement.
The film follows a mother's quest to find a wife for her son. As expected, the conversation on GMB quickly turned to Corrie. When quizzed by hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls about a potential return to the beloved soap, Thelma had disappointing news for fans.
Ed asked: "Aren't you tempted for a cameo role? Maybe with Gail leaving? " Thelma laughed as she replied: "No. I'd be far too terrified," reports the Mirror. "I'd be so frightened to do something that was commercial and in a big studio.
