Former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote has opened up about how her health condition affects her, sharing how her 'heart drops' when people 'stare'. The actress has previously spoken about having Vitiligo, which causes white patches to appear on the skin due to a lack of melanin.
Georgia, who is known for having played Kay Armstrong on the ITV soap until 2015, first spoke about having the autoimmune condition in 2022, saying she'd had the condition for two years.
She recalled at the time that after initially being told that it could be a yeast infection, she received a final diagnosis of vitiligo from a dermatologist. Georgia said she was developing new spots all the time with her hands mostly affected by the condition and patches mirrored on both sides of her body, a sign of non-segmental vitiligo, the most common type of the condition.

Georgia, from Bury, also spoke about receiving her diagnosis last year on World Vitiligo Day. "I went in the room, was diagnosed with vitiligo within minutes and sent away being told there was nothing that could be done," she said. "The only thing they tried to give me was steroid cream. Which I refuse to use. As I know it will do absolutely nothing for me. And can cause further damage."
Now, as she enjoyed a sun-soaked holiday, the former soap star has told how her skin changes when in the sun and how she'd be 'lying' if it didn't 'get to her'.
"Every time I go on holiday and I get a beautiful tan, I see how much my vitiligo has spread more than ever before," she explained. "I would be lying if I didn’t say it gets to me.
