The new character was first seen at the end of last month when he was seen listening to Paul Foreman's interview with Amy Barlow on the radio. Later, when Paul, his husband Billy Mayhew and sister Gemma were busy being blown away by the Motor Neurone Disease crowd funder as a result of his radio appearance, Denny was seen approaching Bernie outside the café.
She couldn't hide her surprise at seeing him before he told her he heard Paul on the radio and didn’t realise his son was dying. Bernie tried to make out Paul was already dead and the interview was a recording. But disbelieving her, Denny waited and followed her up to the flat where Gemma and Paul were shocked to see their dad who remarked that Paul looked great for someone that’s supposedly dead.
