Coronation Street fans are bracing themselves for the worst as they're utterly convinced Roy Cropper's days are numbered. Roy has been behind bars for a while now, ever since Lauren Bolton vanished and he was blamed for her disappearance. And while viewers know that Roy is innocent, DS Swain remains convinced he has killed Lauren.
Things have now taken an even darker turn for Roy and he could find himself the target of a brutal murder plot.
Fellow prisoner Griff, who is a friend of Lauren's dad, is among those who believe Roy has killed the youngster, and is now planning an act of revenge. Griff's been scheming to corner Roy, finally getting Roy's cellmate to trick him into a library trip so he could slip into Roy's cell unseen. Now that Griff's got his claws in, Roy's in deep trouble, but the question is, can he survive this ordeal, or is it curtains for Weatherfield icon? Actor David Neilson, who has played Roy since 1995, has confessed that he feels the weight of this storyline heavily.
He said: " It's a compliment but at the same time a responsibility. "I do like when Roy is doing bits and pieces in scenes with other people and I get to spend time with my family and see my grandchildren but you never know when things are suddenly going to get busier and I'm prepared for that. When you get a part in a play you know the whole part." He continued: "Here you don't know what is going to happen to your character.
I don't know the whole story, I like to see how things pan out when I get the scripts. What I do like about it is the way it has gone back 29 years to 1995 when Roy first arrived. "It is reminiscent of that early Roy Cropper when people were suspicious of his behaviour and thought he was creepy.
