Two children accused of murdering transgender teen Brianna Ghey allegedly stabbed her 28 times after luring her into a park.
The 16-year-old suffered wounds in the head, neck, back and chest with a "catastrophic blood loss". Her body was discovered by dog walkers in Lunear Park in Culcheth, near Warrington, Cheshire, last February.
They had seen a male and a female close to where Brianna lay, who then ran off. Emergency services were called to the scene, however, Brianna could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
A court heard how the two defendants, now aged 16, were 15 at the time of Brianna’s death. The Mirror reports that they both deny murder.
Deanna Heer KC, prosecuting, said: “Each denies that they participated in her killing at all. Each blames the other.” But she told the jury at Manchester crown court: “The prosecution case is that, whoever it was who delivered the fatal blow or blows, both defendants are equally guilty. Acting together, they planned and executed their plan to kill Brianna Ghey.”
The court heard the boy and girl - who had been friends since the age of 11 - had exchanged messages discussing killing people and had compiled a list of four potential victims, in addition to Brianna, from Birchwood, Warrington.
Miss Heer said: “Over time, they encouraged one another to think about how they would actually carry out a killing, and the messages show how they planned together to kill Brianna in just the way that she was in fact killed.” In November last year they had discussed killing and torturing a boy. And in a message sent to her co-accused the girl wrote: “I love watching torture vids. Real ones on the dark web.”
