Police issue update after man stabbed in leisure centre car park

A man who was arrested after a stabbing outside a leisure centre in Irlam has been released from custody, police have confirmed.
Officers were called to a reported stabbing in the car park of Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre on Liverpool Road at around 6.15am on Saturday morning (December 9). A male victim was found with a 'superficial' cut to his leg, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.
He was taken to hospital for treatment. Another man was arrested on the scene on suspicion of assault.

In an update issued this afternoon, a GMP spokesperson said he had since been released from police custody. He will face no further action.
After the incident on Saturday morning, eyewitnesses reported seeing an area outside the leisure centre taped off. It is understood the facility was closed until around 11am, when staff confirmed it had reopened.
One resident who was woken by the police’s arrival was the former landlord of the nearby pub The Ship. The ex-landlord, who did not give his name, said he was woken up at around 6am to blue ‘flashing lights’ coming through the bedroom window of his home on Liverpool Road.
“I saw all the lights flashing through my curtains. I looked out and all the police were out there. There were four police cars and an ambulance,” he said.
He said he initially thought someone had broken into the centre or there had been a mugging at the parcel drop off location outside. “I saw a policeman with his torch walking down there and looking across the grass,” he said pointing to the entrance of the leisure
