BAFTAs respond to 'disgraceful' criticism after Bernard Cribbins omitted from 'in memoriam' tributes

Lenny Kravitz performed his song ‘Calling All Angels’ on piano for the 2023 Oscars In Memoriam tribute segment last night (March 12).The musician sang and played piano as the slideshow played out honouring those in the film industry who have died in the past year.‘Calling All Angels’ is taken from Kravitz’s 2004 album ‘Baptism’. Watch below.This year’s tribute honoured the late Olivia Newton-John, Vangelis, Jean-Luc Godard, James Caan, Ray Liotta, and Angelo Badalamenti.

A few notable stars were not included in the In Memoriam segment at the 2023 Academy Awards.

Anne Heche, “Saving Private Ryan” star Tom Sizemore and Charlbi Dean, who appeared in this year’s Best Picture nominee “Triangle of Sadness.”Fans also noted the absence of Cindy Williams: While she was best known for the ’70s TV sitcom “Laverne & Shirley,” she notably appeared in two classic films of the era, George Lucas’ “American Graffiti” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Conversation.”And while the tribute included “Goodfellas” star Ray Liotta, who died unexpectedly on May 26, 2022, his costar Paul Sorvino, who died in July 2022, was left out. Also missing from the tribute: two-time Oscar nominee Melinda Dillon of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” legendary acting coach Sandra Seacat, “The Nutty Professor” actress Stella Stevens, “Creature From the Black Lagoon” stuntman and cinematographer Ricou Browning, Fred Ward of “The Player” and “The Right Stuff,” “The Wild Bunch” actor Bo Hopkins, “Magnolia” and “Boogie Nights” star Philip Baker Hall, French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, Stanley Kubrick regular Joe Turkel, David Warner of “Titanic” and “Time Bandits,” veteran actor Clu Gulager, blacklisted ’40s star Marsha Hunt, Henry Silva of “The Manchurian Candidate” and “Ocean’s 11,” British actor Leslie Phillips, and Sacheen Littlefeather, who famously appeared on behalf of Marlon Brando to explain why he wasn’t accepting his Best Actor Oscar for “The Godfather.” Among the stars and Hollywood vets honored at the 95th Academy Awards were James Caan, Angela Lansbury, Raquel Welch, Louise Fletcher, Jean-Luc Godard, Gina Lollobrigida, Robbie Coltrane, Nichelle Nichols, Kirstie Alley, and Olivia Newton John.

2023 Oscars took time to share some love and respect for all of the beloved entertainment icons who died over the last year during the show's gala ceremony.John Travolta took to the stage at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, to introduce the emotional In Memoriam segment, featuring a performance from Lenny Kravitz.«In this industry, we have the rare luxury of getting to do what we love for a living, and sometimes getting to do it with people that we come to love,» shared Travolta. «And since tonight is a celebration of the work and the accomplishments of our community in this past year, it is only fitting then that we celebrate those we've lost, who dedicated their lives to their craft, both in front of and behind the camera.»«Through their immeasurable contributions, each of them left an individual and indelible mark that shared and informed us. They've touched our hearts, they've made us smile, and became dear friends,» he continued, as his voice cracked and tears welled up in his eyes, «who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.»Travolta's introduction paid special tribute to Olivia-Newton John, who sang «Hopelessly Devoted to You» in their 1978 musical, Travolta then introduced Lenny Kravitz, who sat at a piano and performed a moving rendition of his song, «Calling All Angels.»This year's In Memoriam honored a multitude of actors, actresses, filmmakers and entertainers who had won Oscars or were nominated during their illustrious careers, including three-time Oscar winning singer-songwriter/composer Burt Bacharach — who died on Feb. 8, 2023, at the age of 94 — as well as Oscar-winning singer Irene Cara, who died on Nov.

DeBose and her back-up dancers burst onto the stage following host Richard E. Grant’s opening monologue. Belting out “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves” and “We Are Family,” the singer transitioned into an original rap saluting the awards’ female nominees.

Paul Mescal and Colin Farrell fans have claimed the actors was “robbed” after losing out to Elvis star Austin Butler for the Leading Actor Award at the 2023 BAFTAs.The 76th BAFTAs took place earlier tonight (February 19) at London’s Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre in a ceremony hosted by Richard E.
