If Manchester United need any inspiration after a difficult opening few weeks to the season then this weekend’s opponents could provide it.
Erik ten Hag’s side have six points on the board but none of their opening three performances have been particularly positive, while there remain several unanswered squad questions as the Reds seek solutions in the closing days of the transfer window.
United have made strides under Ten Hag but need to continue to build on that platform. And patience and persistence will be required for the Reds to challenge at the top. Indeed the Reds can look at Arsenal’s trajectory over the past few years as evidence of how it can be done.

He had a goalscoring striker in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who didn’t fit the dressing room culture (see Cristiano Ronaldo) while several other players either weren’t good enough or lacked the ability to forge a cohesive team unit.
The Gunners propped up the Premier League table, with zero points from three games, when Manchester City romped to a 5-0 win in August 2021. United were in a similar situation two games into last term.
