Anthony Martial’s loan spell with Sevilla has been labelled a 'fiasco' by Spanish media as speculation over his Manchester United future continues to mount.
The striker will return to United this summer after spending the second half of the 2021/22 season in Spain. Martial was eventually granted a move away in January after making it clear he wanted to leave Old Trafford.
But his time with Sevilla didn’t quite go to plan. Martial failed to register a single goal in La Liga as his side’s title challenge faded away.

The Frenchman only managed one goal across 12 appearances in all competitions, with his sole strike coming in the Europa League. Martial also rarely featured during the final weeks of the season, having not been included in Sevilla’s squad for five of their final six league games.
The 26-year-old’s loan spell has led to some pretty damning reviews from the Spanish press. The verdict from AS certainly won’t do his hopes of a summer move any favours.
“Martial’s stint as a Sevilla player can only be described as a fiasco,” the Spanish outlet wrote. “For the investment made, for the expectations created and for the worse than poor performance offered.
“And the fact is that he scored the same two goals and gave an assist [when he was 18], but he did so playing 15 games in a team [Monaco] in which he had to compete for the position with players of the stature of Falcao and Berbatov.”
New United boss Erik ten Hag will now have to issue his own verdict on Martial as he gets to work on his summer rebuild. The Frenchman’s future would appear to lie away from Old Trafford, having made his feelings clear earlier this year.
