In Abernethy, Perthshire the green-fingered village volunteers are delighted their efforts have earned them recognition in the In Bloom community.
The Beautiful Scotland awards were held recently at the Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh.
Hosted by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, the annual Beautiful Scotland awards – held in person for the first time since 2019 – took place on Friday, September 8.
Five Perth and Kinross groups were among 40 others awarded certificates of recognition by Beautiful Scotland.
Abernethy in Bloom was one, alongside Dunkeld and Birnam in Bloom, Invergowrie Gardens and Muthill in Bloom.
Kinnesswood in Bloom, which was one of only four in Scotland to be named a RHS Britain in Bloom finalist, also got a certificate of recognition for its great work in Kinross-shire.
All those gathered at the awards were able to admire a series of photographs projected on the big screen of Abernethy’s displays from around the village.
“We hadn’t entered any specific categories of judged award this year,” explained Sonia Simmers, chair of Abernethy in Bloom.
“But we were awarded a certificate of recognition for all our hard work.
“We, in Abernethy in Bloom, are once again delighted to receive a certificate of recognition from Beautiful Scotland at their recent awards ceremony.
“Our group was formed back in 2015 with the aim to make Abernethy a more cheerful and colourful place to live. Over the years we have renovated the original ‘Nurse Peattie’s Garden’ in the centre of the village and also installed over 50 tubs, containers and hanging baskets throughout.
“We aim to have these planted out all year round - from daffodils, tulips and pansies to our summer bedding displays, admired by many who pass through.
