Philippe Clement revealed he’s planning talks to convince Abdallah Sima to stay at Rangers.
The Senegalese ace has been one of the Ibrox outfit’s few summer success stories having hit 11 goals so far this season. The on-loan Brighton ace is going nowhere just yet having signed up for a season in Scotland. But with a Seagulls contract running until the summer of 2025, Sima will be due to report back to the south coast in June.
However, Clement believes he’d be better off staying in Scotland and hopes to convince the 22-year-old in the weeks ahead. Rangers’ Belgian boss said: “If he is continuing what he is doing now, I think this is also a good place for him to grow, as a player, as a person, in everything. It’s not about assessing that in the summer. There will be talks faster than that. But of course it’s really early to be doing that now.
“The most important thing is that Abdallah is performing and that he feels really good in the club. That’s the first step so we can build on that.”
While the likes of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers have toiled during their first six months at Ibrox, Sima has quickly got up to speed. He netted a brace in Clement’s first game in charge as he made it seven goals in as many games.
The former Slavia Prague forward went through a period where his form dipped slightly but he was back on target with a match-winning double in Sunday’s 2-0 win over St Mirren.
“This is a demanding club so you love that or you have difficulty with that,” said Clement. “You need a big personality to be strong with that in the moments when people are not happy about things. Then you need to fight through.
