People who live in a Lancashire neighbourhood branded a 'no-go zone' have defended their community following calls to tackle antisocial behaviour.
Last week, councillors, the police and residents met to discuss gangs of youths causing trouble in the Queensgate area of Burnley. Residents’ representative Jennifer Braddock has made three visits to Burnley’s Full Council meeting to complain about anti-social behaviour in the area.
At last month’s meeting she warned that parts of the ward had become ‘no-go’ areas for ordinary residents with youths showing “a total disrespect” for local people, reports LancsLive. But when the publication visited the area, they were surprised by what they found.

They were greeted by a community of people who described the area as "perfectly nice, perfectly safe." As traffic flowed along the busy Colne Road, shops and businesses were open and groups of men made their way to Friday prayers at the Queensgate Islamic Centre.
Laura, who works in the One Stop shop, on Colne Road, said: "I have never had any trouble here. We are open from 7am to 10pm. We have the same customers, locals, and they are alright. There probably is a little bit of antisocial behaviour but I have never had any problems."
Ali Ahmed told us he was "born and bred" in the area. "I just don't think it is true", he said. "There are no issues. We all know each other and the area is safe and sound. The only real issue is speeding on the main road. Antisocial behaviour? No, not here."
