Renee O'Connor, who starred as Gabrielle in the popular fantasy series Xena: Warrior Princess, has made a rare appearance on social media, 23 years after the show ended.
The 52 year old actress is now working as the founder and artistic director of House of Bards Theatre Company; located in the Arts District of San Pedro, California. She surprised fans by popping up on Instagram where she interviewed fellow actress Rachel Levy about her experience in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Writing in the caption, Renee said: "Thank you, Rachel Levy, for coming to share your experience creating the role of Puck, for the House of Bards Theatre Company’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
@houseofbardstheatreco @alldarach You are one of the best of us!" In the video, TV star Renee looked stylish with a chestnut brown bob and a tweed jacket - a far cry from her character Gabrielle's strawberry blonde braids. Xena: Warrior Princess, which aired from 1995 to 2001, is still loved by many for its strong female leads. She delighted her 71,900 followers with the live interview.
One person said: "Thank you to you and to the guests for the live chats, they are really insightful and enjoyable. For someone who isn’t familiar with everything that must go into putting on a show, these are very interesting." The close friendship between Xena, played by Lucy Lawless, and Gabrielle was a key part of the show.In 2019, Lucy confirmed to Stellar magazine that Xena and Gabrielle's relationship was meant to be romantic. "That's where the characters settled.
At first, even [Renee and I] didn't see that coming, but the producers and writers knew what they were doing," she said. Lucy also told the magazine, "it doesn't even matter. Who cares anymore? Gay
