‘World’s Best’ Review: Roshan Sethi’s Coming-of-Age Dramedy Isn’t Exactly a Mic Drop

Jessica Kiang The intriguing central location of Anna Roller’s feature debut is an Italian village mysteriously abandoned, Marie Celeste-style, with its wardrobes still groaning with fur coats and its churches fully stocked with altar wine. It is a handy metaphor for “Dead Girls Dancing” itself, which, as a coming-of-age story, plays in heavily pre-trafficked territory, inheriting many of the trappings of the very many films that have preceded it — especially those dedicated to the growing pains of teenage girls exploring their nascent sexuality and the limits of their childhood bonds. But the clothes are borrowed and once they are politely returned, and the woozy contact high of Roller’s impressively confident, hip style wears off, there’s not a lot left that makes a lasting impression in a densely populated category. Just as these girls, however momentous their own experiences, will leave few traces of their presence on the stone streets and crumbling buildings of their temporary hideaway. 

With a mixed critical reception and low numbers at the box office, James Mangold‘s new entry in the “Indiana Jones” franchise is officially a disappointment. But that’s not entirely Mangold’s fault.

Though not as huge as something like “Stranger Things” or “Squid Games,” the comedy series, “Sex Education,” has been a steady hit for Netflix over the course of its run. But all good things must come to an end, and it appears “Sex Education” is ready to say goodbye.

Breaking Bad actor Mike Batayeh has died aged 52, his family have confirmed.Batayeh, who played laundromat manager Dennis Markowski in the iconic series, passed away on June 1 after suffering a heart attack at home in Michigan, his family told TMZ.His sister Ida Vergollo told the outlet that he died in his sleep and had no prior history of heart issues.In a statement to the Detroit Free Press on Saturday (July 10), the family added: “It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our dear brother, Michael (Mike) Batayeh, who passed away unexpectedly of a massive heart attack at his home.They added: “He was very well known in the Arab-American community. Mike was part of the first wave of Western comics to perform for local audiences in the Middle East in such places as Dubai, where he filmed a comedy special for Showtime Arabia.“Mike never lost touch with his roots in Detroit, and he gave back to the community in countless ways.
