"We saw the bomb squad and all started to worry": Street awoken by explosives units as guns and 'grenade' uncovered in house

An unassuming residential street in Bolton was suddenly awoken by the sound of bomb disposal units arriving on Tuesday morning (February 20).
Worried locals 'tried to get out' of their homes as their street was being taped off at around 8.30am. Police and fire crews were also descended on Milton Crescent, Farnworth, after authorities received intelligence relating to the 'location of firearms' at a property.
Specialist Explosive Ordinances Disposal units, along with paramedics, were called to the scene early in the morning before a haul of 'offensive weapons' were uncovered, including a suspected grenade, guns and ammunition.

It was later confirmed that the grenade was 'not viable' and posed no threat to the community. A man, aged 23, was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of firearms and Class B drugs. He remains in custody for further questioning.
One resident, who woke up to the sight of police swarming the street outside their front door told the Manchester Evening News: “It was early in the morning. We were trying to get out as soon as possible because they were taping off the street. There were lots of police and fire engines and it looked quite serious.”
Another homeowner added: "There was loads of police and fire engines coming onto the street. They stopped around here but wouldn't tell us much and they were here for quite a while."
While one person described how the arrival of the bomb disposal unit caused ‘worry’ in the neighbourhood. "At first I wasn’t paying that much attention" they said.
