Former Man City and England forward Stan Bowles dies aged 75 after Alzheimer's battle

Former QPR star Stan Bowles has passed away at 75 after fighting Alzheimer's disease, the football club shared.
Stan Bowles, born in Collyhurst in north Manchester, began his football journey with Manchester City as a young apprentice. He played for Crewe and Carlisle before making a big move.
In 1972, he joined QPR and became a legend there, playing 315 league games and scoring 97 times in seven years. He was a key player when QPR nearly won the top league in 1975-76.
QPR released a statement saying: "It is with a heavy heart we have learned that QPR icon Stan Bowles sadly passed away this evening (Saturday), aged 75. All our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. May he rest in peace."
The club also said: "The club will be confirming how we will be paying a fitting tribute to Stan in due course."
Bowles was known as a brilliant but unpredictable player. He moved to Nottingham Forest with Brian Clough in 1979 and then to Leyton Orient a year later.
Despite his huge talent, Bowles only played for England five times and scored one goal against Wales in 1974.
Bowles ended his football career at Brentford in west London and retired in 1984. He then started doing after-dinner speeches, some pundit work and a betting column. His autobiography in 1996 showed how much he drank, flirted and gambled during his football days.
When Bowles was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, he moved back to Manchester to be looked after by his eldest daughter, Andria.
In 2017, QPR held a special match in honour of Bowles against Bournemouth. The match helped raise money for his ongoing care.
