Prince William was drawn to Kate Middleton by her "warm, solid background" when he first met her, according to a palace insider.
The insight into William and Kate's relationship dynamic comes from Tom Quinn, who is the author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family.
During an exclusive interview with Daily Express US, Quinn revealed the private conversations he had with palace insiders who claim that the Princess of Wales "key" appeal to William in the beginning was her upbringing, which was entirely different from his own.
Quinn explained: "Someone who worked for them said to me: 'You've got to remember that William wanted Kate because she has the sort of solid, warm family background that he didn't have.'"
The source did not elaborate much but it's safe to say that the 41-year-old princess experienced a very different upbringing to William, who has been the heir to the throne since birth, the Express reports.
Kate was lucky enough to be raised by two loving parents whereas William and his younger brother Harry were sadly robbed of a conventional family dynamic at a young age.
Their late mother, Princess Diana, who went through a very public divorce with their father Charles in 1996, was killed in a car crash in Paris a year later after she was chased by paparazzi.
Amid all this upheaval and tragedy, Kate was a "calm presence" in William's life, Quinn opines.
Kate's orderly middle class upbringing also made her a natural fit for 'the Firm' he believes.
The expert added: "In a sense, the fact that the Royal Family is unchanging and has a strict set of rules reflects on a different scale the boundaries that she had as a child.
