Manchester City and Manchester United have already earned millions from the Champions League before kicking a ball. Pep Guardiola’s side rejoiced in Istanbul as City finally got their hands on the famous trophy last season and completed their treble.
The Blues have been drawn with RB Leipzig, Crvena Zvezda and Young Boys in Group G and will be aiming to defend the trophy. United are scheduled to travel to Bayern Munich on Wednesday as their group stage campaign begins. Erik ten Hag’s side will hope to make up for lost time after spending last season in the Europa League and have been drawn with Bayern, Copenhagen and Galatasaray in Group A.
Both sides will be confident of making it through to the knockout stages but have already banked €15.64m (£13.46m) just for being part of the group stages. There is even more money on offer too, with each team earning €2.8m (£2.41m) per win, meaning United or City could potentially add another €16.8m (£14.46m) to their prize pot on their way to the round of 16.

Once a place in the knockout stages is confirmed, each of the 16 clubs will receive a further €9.6m (£8.26m). This fee will rise to €10.6m (£9.12m) by reaching the quarter-finals, while all four semi-finalists earn €12.5m (£10.76m).
If either City or United successfully reach the final, the runner-up would get €15.5m (£13.34m), with the overall winner earning €20m (£17.22m). This means the Champions League winner has the opportunity to earn up to €85.14 (£73.29m), plus another €3.5 (£3m) and extra €1m (£860k) in qualifying for - and possibly winning - the 2024/25 UEFA Super Cup.
