The long-expected announcement of Erik ten Hag’s appointment as the next Manchester United boss on Thursday was met with optimism by fans. The Dutchman will join on a three-year deal, with an option for a further 12 months, this summer.
United are set for a number of acquisitions and departures ahead of an expected squad overhaul. Ten Hag has been tasked with the challenge of restoring United back as title contenders in a long-term project.
But it looks as though his mind is very much still on the short-term with Ajax. The 52-year-old was driving into the Dutch club’s training facilities on Friday when he was congratulated on his appointment at United by a reporter.

Ten Hag responded by waving a dismissive hand and quickly driving off. The announcement of his appointment comes after Ajax’s Dutch Cup final defeat to PSV on Sunday.
It seems his focus remains on the task to win his third Eredivisie title, with Ajax four points clear at the top of the table with five games to go. Within Ajax’s statement upon the announcement of ten Hag’s impending move to Manchester, the new United manager said: “I only have one interest now and that's these last five games.
“I want to finish my time here on a positive note, by winning the league. By doing so, we'll qualify directly for the Champions League. Ajax belongs there."
