Nurses at an Edinburgh hospital have been left outraged after being told they can't take time off to attend the funeral of a beloved colleague.

Two NHS Ayrshire & Arran nurses have been announced as finalists at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Nurse of the Year awards.
Susan Holland and Yasmin Murray, both based at University Hospital Crosshouse, have been chosen as shining examples of excellence in Scottish Nursing.
Susan, who has been an Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse Consultant for six years, is a finalist in the Mental Health Nursing Award category. She was nominated for her leadership skills and outstanding contribution to the field of mental health nursing and her commitment to positive dementia practices.
Yasmin, a Deputy Charge Nurse in the Medical High Dependency Unit, is a finalist in the Learning in Practice Award category. Yasmin is being recognised for her work to develop a specialised training package to help junior nurses in the unit – a package which has the potential to improve patient care, efficiency and staff retention.
The winners of each award will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on May 23 at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran Nurse Director, Jennifer Wilson, said: “This is fantastic news and well deserved. Huge congratulations to Yasmin and Susan. This recognition acknowledges the important work they are both doing in their roles and I wish them every success for the RCN awards night itself next month.”
