Travel experts have warned holidaymakers of a little-known passport rule which could see you turned around at the boarding gate. It’s important that travellers are aware of a country’s passport rules, especially after Brexit.
One major thing to consider when planning on visiting an EU country is to ensure that your passport has sufficient months of validity remaining. Your passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years, be valid for the duration of your stay and with an additional three months remaining.
Since Brexit UK travellers will have noticed that their passports are now stamped at EU borders, which wasn’t previously the case. This can cause some difficulties if you’re a frequent traveller as your pages can fill up quickly.

Some countries may require you to have a certain number of blank pages - sometimes consecutive - in your passport when you enter. It can be possible to ask an official passport office to add extra pages to your passport, but that isn’t always offered by every country.
If that happens, then you’ll probably need to apply for a replacement, even if your passport isn’t due to expire for several years. But travel experts at Travel Republic recommend another option.
