TOWIE's Georgia Kousoulou has bravely opened up about the '12 weeks of hell' she endured before tragically losing her baby. "When you lose a baby, it's so lonely," the reality TV star shared. "I think my body has gone into defence mechanism to protect me." Georgia sadly lost her second child 12 weeks into her pregnancy last April after discovering the baby had triploidy, a rare condition where a baby's cells have 69 chromosomes instead of the usual 46.
This can occur when two sperm fertilise one egg and can result in severe health problems for the baby.
Upon learning about the condition at 12 weeks, doctors advised Georgia, 32, to terminate the pregnancy on medical grounds. She said, "Triploidy is so rare.
There is no survival rate, and the chances are I would have had a stillbirth.
The doctors said 'We need to remove the baby'. So I had to terminate the pregnancy which goes against everything I believe in, but I had no choice." Georgia, who shares her two year old son Brody with husband Tommy Mallett, 31, knew straight away when she was pregnant again because her bump started to grow quickly.
However, she explained that doctors thought the the [amniotic] sac was too small and then she sadly had a bleed. "By the time I got to 12 weeks, I had had more scans in that pregnancy than I had ever had with Brody. I had expected to go in there with no heartbeat, but there was one.
So I had really connected with this baby. It was 12 weeks of hell. My emotions were just so up and down." Georgia opened up about her heartbreaking loss in her new book I Wish I Knew, which covers all parts of her life and being a mum.
