Ewen MacIntosh had been rushed to hospital two years before his tragic death.
The actor, 50, was best known to fans of BBC's The Office for his role as iconic character Keith Bishop.
Ewen's death was announced by his management company JustRright, as they revealed he had been undergoing treatment at a care home in Littlehampton.
The emotional statement read: "With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved comedy genius Ewen MacIntosh. His family thank all who supported him, especially Willow Green Care Home. There will be a private cremation for family & close friends soon & a celebratory memorial later in the year."
Ewen took to social media in February 2022 to reveal he was in hospital as he told fans: "Bad times for me I'm afraid chums. Stay strong out there." He also shared a snap from his hospital bed, where he could be seen wearing ECG stickers attached to his chest, as reports the Mirror.
Fans rushed to the comments at the time, with one writing: "Hold tight big dog. Sending vibes." Another wrote: "Hey @ewenmacintosh... you feeling better mate? Hope you are back to full health. Dan." "Wishing you a speedy recovery mate, hope you're ok," wrote a third.
The late star delighted fans when he previously made a surprise appearance in the 2022 series of After Life, as one person gushed: "OMG, KEITH FROM THE OFFICE SHOWS UP IN AFTER LIFE S3."
