This Morning viewers were quick to show their support for host Cat Deeley as she shared her Northern Irish husband Patrick Keilty's struggle with shingles. While presenting the show alongside Ben Shephard, the conversation shifted to the topic of shingles and its impact on those over 50. Cat revealed that initially, Patrick didn't realise he had contracted the illness, attributing the symptoms to their home renovations.
"He thought he'd touched his face. He'd got this burning, tingling, stinging sensation, so that's what he thought it was," Cat disclosed. Doctor Sara Kayat was on hand to describe the warning signs: "Firstly you tend to get this tingly, burning sensation.
You may also notice you're feeling more fatigued you've got a headache, you're tired. You might even have a bit of a temperature." She continued, detailing the progression of the condition: "A few days later you can start to develop a blotchy rash and then that develops into fluid-filled blisters, which start to crust over and scab away." Cat added, "They can be on the trunk of your body? [Patrick] has got them on his face, actually! ". Sara affirmed that the blisters could appear "anywhere" on the body, including sensitive areas like the genitals and eyes.
Concerned fans took to social media to express their concern and share personal stories, offering sympathy to Cat and Patrick. One individual took to X sharing: "I got shingles about 3 months ago, lasted for about 6 weeks, it was bloody horrible! " Another user related to the pain, posting: "Shingles is quite possibly the worst pain ever. I had it as a 13 year old on my crotch.
