Yesterday, Ali, 36, from Old Trafford, was finally exposed after a jury convicted him of a series of sex assaults; as well as misconduct in public office. He is facing a jail sentence when he returns to court on June 23.
His trial heard disturbing detail about how Ali had been left virtually unsupervised as he led the Trafford Volunteer Cadet Scheme from his second floor office at Stretford police station.
No sergeant or inspector at the station monitored his growing empire with any care, the jurors were told. "He had too much autonomy and abused it," prosecutor Anne Whyte KC told the jury at Liverpool Crown Court. The officer had 'far too much freedom... and was not adequately supervised or line managed', the court was told.
