The Script star Mark Sheehan has sadly died at the age of 46. The guitarist passed away after suffering from a brief illness, the band have confirmed. In a statement shared by the Irish group, they paid tribute to their longtime friend and fellow musician.
"Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness," they said. "The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time." It was reported last year that Mark hadn't been playing with the rest of the band during The Script world tour. Other members Danny O'Donoghue and Glen Power were approached to clarify why their guitarist had been absent, but a spokesperson told Sunday World at the time they declined.
"The band isn't available for comment but on the band's socials they mention he is spending time with his family currently," a statement said. The Script are a rock band formed in Ireland in 2001, nearly 22 years ago. Mark was born in The Liberties area of Dublin in 1976.
He joined the band MyTown with Script lead singer Danny in his early career. The duo, who were old friends, became joint song writers on Peter Andre's songs with the band, and later co-wrote together on The Script too. Danny, 42, has always gushed over Mark's abilities in the band as he said in an interview last year he "really enjoys what Mark does as a writer" and they "share the responsibilities".
He continued: "And I feel privileged that I get the opportunity to work with somebody that even if we had never met and he wasn’t in this band I would be playing his records today.
