A company that claimed to be raising money to fight knife crime has been hit with a hefty fine for illegally collecting money in Manchester.

The team tasked with transforming the Strangeways area on the edge of Manchester city centre has been selected. Consultants have been appointed by two councils to draw up a masterplan for the much-maligned neighbourhood for the next decade and beyond.
Manchester and Salford councils have joined forces to a commission a specialist team to develop a plan for the area which they describe as 'currently synonymous with crime and a poor quality local environment'. The Cambridge area of Salford is also included.
Work to improve the area along Bury New Road dubbed Counterfeit Street has already started with stores selling knock-off goods closed down in a high-profile police operation aimed at bringing down the organised crime gangs behind them. The local authorities are also hoping that Strangeways prison - described as 'one of the biggest hurdles facing the area' - will be closed and relocated.

Town hall bosses have set out a blueprint for the 'key gateway to the city' where new homes, green spaces and business units are planned. Now, a specialist team has been chosen to draw up a strategic regeneration framework which will set out the finer details.
The work will include economic analysis, masterplanning, urban and landscape design, heritage and strategic property advice. The team, which will bring expertise across a range of different disciplines, building on previous projects delivered in the city, includes:
