The most haunted city in the UK with 'orphan voices and visitors strangled by ghosts'

A city voted as one of the best places to live in the UK due to beautiful cafes, restaurants and winding streets is also one of the most haunted places in Europe.
When the bustling daytime crowds disperse in York, eerie shadows fall on the city and whispering voices are said to be heard down its dark lanes. The city, is alleged host to over 500 ghosts and has a long history of tales with peculiar happenings.
Almost every cobbled road and ancient building has a scary story behind it, and most residents all have their own unexplained, hair-raising experiences, reports the Daily Mirror.
From old Berden Hall, where neighbours claim to hear frightening voices of murdered orphans, to the phantom-infested King's Arms pub where one former staff member says she was strangled by a ghost - the city's rich Roman and Victorian history continues to live on and spook York local residents.
Mark Graham, 68, runs the oldest ghost walk in the world, The Original Ghost Walk of York.
Mark, and his wife Sharon, 61, host an event at 8pm every single night to lead guided tours around the ghostly city.
Mark said: "I'm not a psychic investigator, I'm a storyteller, and I've seen shapes and shadows. I used to live in the city where the old orphanage stood in Berden. The ghosts of orphans who were ill-treated are said to haunt it. I've heard those voices many times." While Mark is prepared to accept alternative explanations, he said: "I do know neighbours of mine who claim to have seen ghostly children in their houses."
Late on night in the city, a local dog walker claimed he could hear the sound of children playing in the street, and when he tried to investigate, his pup cowered and refused to budge. He briefly left his pet and entered a passage,
